As a die hard Beastie Boys fan, the loss of Adam Yauch is a shattering one. I still remember, fondly, receiving my Licensed To Ill cassette as a gift on Christmas in ’86. Although Adrock’s nasally delivery was abrasive and hard to ignore, and Mike D’s taunting was often hilarious, it was Yauch’s scruffy, gravelly voice that caught my attention as a young’n. From his start as the group’s gun-toting, glue-sniffing loose cannon (well they all were, really), to his evolution as a devout Buddhist, Tibetan freedom advocate and acclaimed video director, Adam Yauch was a true force, not only as an artist, but a humanitarian. Today, we have lost one of the truest spirits that has ever existed. Rest In Power, Adam Yauch (aka MCA, aka Nathaniel Hornblower). You will be dearly missed.
